Pottery taster sessions
Have a go on the wheel or try out hand-building!
The wheel sessions are one to one with 2 hours of directed throwing for 1 person or 2.5 hrs for 2 if you would like to bring a friend/relative. You will learn how to prepare your clay, centre on the wheel and hopefully throw yourself a one of a kind creation.
You will be given demonstrations and talked through the process as you go and will be encouraged to mess up and explore how the clay reacts on the wheel with speed levels and pressure from your hands. This helps to really get a feel for the clay, the wheel and how to achieve making an actual pot... yay!
The hand-building sessions are 2 hours long with a maximum of 2 people. You will either be using slabs, coiling, pinching pots and pretty much anything you want to do with the clay :) There are some limits with the time frame for example if you need straight sides standing upright but I can prepare ready rolled slabs the day before to stiffen up for you to use, if you had something in mind. But ideally its to get stuck in and just enjoy creating something yourself with help from me throughout. If you would like to keep it your creation and have a single glaze applied I can fire and glaze starting at £5 per creation. If you would like to be more adventurous and use underglaze to ‘paint’ your creation with different colours (similar to painting a picture) and then have it clear glazed then we can make a date for another session. This can be decided when you know what you are making.
If you make something but are not that fussy about keeping it then I can reclaim the clay and save some kiln related energy :) But if you would like to get your pot fired and glazed there will be a minimum charge of £5 per pot, this pays for 2 firings – a bisque fire, glaze and glaze firing. You can decide at the end of your session!
All you need to bring is an apron, an old tea-towel, tie back any long hair, have short nails for wheel throwing and not mind getting a bit messy!
How to book:
Please enquire about arranging a date/ time for your session (via the workshop enquiry form).
Once you have a date confirmed, please pay the non-refundable deposit of £20 per session (regardless of how many people will be attending on the day). This will go towards the full amount of your session.
The balance is due on the day of your workshop, we accept cash or card payments.
